Modern Family Fable Teaches Kids About Problem Solving

I believe it is important for kids to learn how to solve their own problems. When my boys fight I always ask them what do they think they can do to make the situation better. Other things may occur in my children's lives which require problem solving skills. As we get older these skills become even more important in our lives.  The new children's book, "The Old Green Chair," by Dr. Traudi Allen, helps children learn the values of creativity, optimism and problem solving.

The story is about an old chair which sits near the heater in a family's home.  The chair has been there for many, many years.  Visitors have sat on the chair, the mom sat on the chair and kids have played on the chair.  The chair comes to life in the story and is the main character.  One day, a couple of boys brake the chair and it is placed in the garage and later on the side of the road.

When the lady next door picks up the chair it is given new life.  "The Old Green Chair" is the second in Allen's House Series of Picture Books for Children, a series of fables that communicate key lessons to children.  Each book tackles important topics from conflict resolution to maintaining a positive outlook in ways that get families talking about valuable social skills.
