Avocado Nutrition Facts


A diet that consists of a wide variety of colorful fruits and veggies can provide essential nutrients for you and your family. Getting picky eaters to consume healthy vegetables is difficult. The avocado is not only nutritious it is also very versatile and and your fussy eater will love this delicious vegetable.

Why should you include avocado in your family's diet?

According to the American Heart Association you can lower your risk of heart disease if you know which fats raise your LDL or bad cholesterol and which ones do not. A one ounce serving of avocado contains .5 grams of saturated fat and is trans fat and cholesterol-free.

Our bodies need 13 essential vitamins in order to function properly. These nutrients include: vitamins A, C D, E E and the B vitamins thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12 and folate. Avocados contain many of these vitamins.

Avocados have many health benefits for moms, babies and kids.
Pregnant and nursing moms should include avocados in their diet. Avocados are high in folate (folic acid) which helps reduce the risk of serious birth defects. They are sodium, sugar and cholesterol-free and contain mono and polyunsaturated fats. Kids love avocados because they taste great and have a fun texture. Avocados are smooth and creamy and should be the first solid food that your baby eats at around 5 or 6 months.

Simple Avocado Baby Food Recipe

Peel and cut the avocado in half. Remove the large seed in the center. Chop up the avocado into dime sized pieces and place in blender. Blend up on low speed and slowly add water until texture is smooth and creamy. Serve immediately or refrigerate and store for up to one week in sealed container.

Avocados are healthy and delicious and can be consumed in salads, dips, spreads and sandwiches. Avocados are usually in season from March through September and can be found in the produce section of your local grocery store.
