Lighten Up America : New Handbook Will Help You Lose Weight and Keep it Off

Approximately one third of American adults are overweight or obese. And we are continuing to grow. Our portion sizes have increased over the past 30 years and with computers and televisions in every home we are also a lot more sedentary than years past. It's not surprising that millions of dollars are spent on health care to treat obesity related diseases every year. If we don't shed the pounds now the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation predicts that by 2030 half of all Americans will be obese.

If you are trying to lose weight and have failed miserably in the past you may need a better understanding of how our bodies gain and lose weight.  Dr. Lisa Clark, a family physician, has written a humorous and easy-to-understand handbook designed to teach everyone the basics of the human body in order to lose weight and keep it off.

"Lighten Up America" discusses natural weight gains and losses, and the effects of exercise and our body composition during different stages of our lives.

"Weight management is a process that requires both education and motivation," said Clark. "There is no magical secret: just hard work, knowledge and willpower."

At less than 100 pages, I found "Lighten Up America: Odds and Not So Fat Ends of Weight Management," witty and a very quick read. I recommend this book for those who don't have a lot of time to read but are in need of some answers to their weight loss questions. You can purchase "Lighten Up America" on Amazon.com or at your local book store.

About the author: Dr. Lisa Clark was born in Toronto Canada and received a master's degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and a medical degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans.  She and her husband have a son and daughter and live in Florida, where she currently practices family medicine.  This is her first book.
