Obesity Statistics in the United States

According to the CDC, nearly 40% of adults in the US are obese.  Since the 1970's the obesity rates have more than doubled in adults and children. Recent studies suggest that the obesity rates today are steady, but this continues to be a widespread health problem in America.  

Obesity is contributed to several serious growing health conditions in the United States including,heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. All of these are preventable through proper diet and exercise. The American Heart Association recommends that adults have 4-5 servings each of fruits and vegetables every day, eat more whole grains, use liquid vegetable oils, eat more chicken, fish and beans learn how to read food labels and participate in regular physical activity.

Adults should exercise for at least 30 minutes a day for five days a week in order to maintain a healthy weight. Physical activity can be anything from aerobic, walking, running, bike riding, participating in a sport or strength training or a combination of all of the above.
